To successfully reform the criminal justice system, we must work to strengthen the bonds of trust between our communities, government, institutions and our police, ensure a successful transition of individuals from prison to home, and reducing unnecessary long convictions for first-time offenders with nonviolent offenses. It is time to reform our criminal justice system to be safer for everyone, and going after everyone, including those on the top. Dino believes in ending mass incarceration, in the war on corruption, and bribery, drugs, human trafficking, weapons, and vandalism.
As the advocate for a more just and comprehensive system, Dino will focus on a few key areas:
- Reforming mandatory minimum sentencing.
- Cutting mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenses in half.
- Allowing current nonviolent prisoners to seek fairer sentences.
- Focusing national enforcment resources on violent crime, not simple marijuana poessession.
- Providing treatment and rehabilitation for low-level, nonviolent drug offenders.
- Funding the offices of public defenders.
- Decriminalizing poverty.
- Ending arbitration clauses that shield corporate abuses of every day.
- Bringing law enforcement and communities together to develop a national program for a fight against crime.
- Supporting legislation to end racial profiling.
- Collecting and reporting national data.
- Ensuring that every citizen is held accountable for committed crimes, including government officials, corporate CEOs, and entitled members of a community.
